Ever had a car that wouldn't start
1. Switch identities
A covert narcissist will accuse you of doing what he or she does
A covert narcissist will pretend to be you
2. Fill the shallow
They are insecure because they see you and others as better and more successful
So, they try to beat you down to elevate themselves in contrast
3. Bluster
Although the narcissist seeks to beat you down, the fact that he or she feels the need
is actually a compliment.
The narcissist gets frustrated when his or her bluster gets little or no results.
And, so, he or she steps up the game.
4. Control the narrative
Every narcissist I have known creates a story in which he or she is superior.
The victims of their abuse are portrayed as criminals.
The story they tell about you is seldom if ever good.
Having the reality of your life rewritten by a narcissist can be very draining,
particularly when others believe the lie
5. Entitled to possessions
Narcissists believe they are entitled to your time, your money, your reputation.
Your reputation belongs to the narcissist. He or she wants to destroy it.
6. Feel depressed
Why? When they observe your depression, they feel in control.
They are in control of your emotions, of your mental health.
7. Feel inferior
This is a form of gaslighting.
The narcissist feels superior by convincing others they are inferior to him or her.
You will notice that the narcissists in your life will belittle you when around others.
If they belittle you in front of you, imagine what they do when you're not around!
8. Feel defeated
In their minds, narcissists are playing a game. They see themselves as scoring points.
Every time they fool you, they chalk up a point in their column.
You don't even know you're in the game or that there is a game.
And that, by the way, is another point for the narcissist.
Once you realize you are being played by the narcissist, the narcissist thinks you scored.
So, he or she will begin playing hardball.
They ramp up the offense with an intensified smear campaign
