Lake Charles, LA - A shelter-in-place has been issued due to a crude oil tank fire at the Calcasieu Refining Company.

The order is for a 3-mile radius around Calcasieu Refining, according to Calcasieu OEP.

A mandatory evacuation has been issued for a 1.5-mile radius of the refinery, including all of the Graywood subdivision, Calcasieu OEP said.

The cause of the fire is a lightning strike, Calcasieu OEP said.

My mom was from Lake Charles. I've been there many times. I still have relatives there. I had an aunt and uncle killed in a house fire there years ago. I'm going to check to see if everyone is alright.

I've been through it many times going to Texas and Galveston. they have a lot of chemical plants there and in Sulphur LA. I'm not a city person, so I don't go there much, only drive through it.

@TwoFeather: I haven't been there since my grandma died, but I have cousins there. One cousin's husband was a cop who turned state's evidence on police corruption. They threatened him, and they had to flee Louisiana and moved to Spokane, WA to get away.
