SHOW NOTES...
I'm not saying, don't take Asperger's Syndrome seriously.
Rather, I'm saying a serious but fun way to manage your life as an Aspergian is how to have fun.
Why do we have fun? The answer is a neurotransmitter in our brains called dopamine.
When you're having fun, it's because your brain is consistently releasing dopamine.
It is created by your brain first, by changing the amino acid tyrosine into dopa and then into dopamine. It affects your behavior and sensations such as
Learning
Motivation
Heart rate
Blood vessel function
Kidney function
Lactation
Sleep
Mood
Attention
Control of nausea and vomiting
Pain processing
Movement
You've noticed, for example, that it's easier to learn when you find the subject interesting.
Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that produces pleasure.
So, when we control our brain in such as way as to create dopamine, we are creating pleasure, enjoyment, or fun.
1. Create an end goal
2. Create step goals that lead to the end goal
Each time you reach a step goal, dopamine is released and you want to do it again
So you move on to the next step
Each step must lead to the end goal
One game I like to play is to try to may eye contact with strangers
see if I can be the first
The next step is to speak to the stranger; say hello
3. Pay yourself
Say, for example, you reached the goal of making eye contact five times a day for an entire week. Reward yourself with a trip to your favorite restaurant (unless you're trying to lose weight)
4. Journaling
Take note of your successes
And this doesn't only apply to Asperger's related experiences
but is natural for Aspies, because we think in "spreadsheet"
