TopHobbyTrains Kato N Mikado 2-8-2 with Tsunami 2 DCC

This Mod is of a 1st generation Kato N Scale Mikado 2-8-2 steam locomotive. The loco is about 25 years old and its line has gone through several upgrades since this model was released. Of note are the drivers. The 1st couple of runs from Kato included drivers that, as time passed, would lose electrical connectivity and the loco would fail. Additionally the draw bar could cause issues while the lack of a traction driver would relegate the loco to very short consists.
We installed our Mikado Sound package and also had to replace the #2 driver as it was spotty in electrical pickup. A traction driver was installed and the headlight is replaced with our golden white T1 LED. The locomotive is rewired and Tsunami2 decoder, capacitor & speaker is hardwired in the tender. We also installed one of our Knowles speakers the tender. The Tsunami2 is a smaller decoder than its predecessor and has a more powerful sound amplifier. The folks at Soundtraxx also corrected some of the issues with the older Tsunami by increasing the driver chuff sync range to accommodate many more locomotives. The sound choices have been expanded in the Tsunami 2 providing many more loco options all in a single decoder. There are a lot of CVs to play with all done in an 3 tier indexed scheme.
In all the Tsunami 2 is a great addition to the Soundtraxx line of decoders and has become a staple decoder in our sound packages.
