21 July . Costa Rica . A powerful magnitude 7 earthquake struck off the coast of Panama Wednesday afternoon. The quake was centered about 30 miles to the south of the Punta de Burica peninsula, south of the border between Panama and Costa Rica. It hit at 2:15 p.m. Pacific Time. A shake map from the USGS indicates shaking was felt throughout the region, as far north as the border between Costa Rica and Nicaragua and east past Panama City. A lot of videos appear on the network, which show how the waves wash away the coastline. People are worried about the likelihood of a tsunami caused by such a strong earthquake. The authorities also say that the possibility of a tsunami is possible in the near future. Residents are advised to leave the coastal areas.
