A BBC Radio play by Stephen Wyatt

Many people believe that the inspiration for the title character of Oscar Wilde's chilling book THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY was an actual person: John Gray, a poet and friend of Wilde's. While there is evidence to the contrary and Wilde himself denied it, this theory still exists.

    What if it were true?

The year is 1895; the place Victorian London. The notorious trial of Regina v. Wilde has concluded with Wilde's conviction for gross indecency, and with society in a total panic the worst of the fallout is still yet to come.

In a London cafe, civil servant and poet John Gray, the man rumored to have inspired Wilde's scandalous novel, sits waiting. He has been summoned by a mysterious telegram, and by the end of the evening the course of his life may be changed forever.
