The City of God & the Mystery of the Ascension

Many saints have listed a number of reasons for our dear Lord’s departure from us…why He had to go. First, the Son of God and the Son of Mary is the great Pioneer Who blazes the trail for us to follow. Those who participate in the mysteries of His Life, Death, and Burial, will share in the mysteries of His physical resurrection and His ascension upwards becoming lasting settlers in our heavenly homeland. Secondly, our dearest Lord is the great High Priest…the One and Only Mediator between God and man…Who must enter into that upper Sanctuary…into the Holy of Holies…the Divine Tabernacle…not made by human hands…but set up by the Lord Himself. And there bring His Most Precious Blood and His Sacred Wounds and intercede for us below and to provide us gifts, especially the Gift of God which is the Holy Ghost. Third… it is not proper…not fitting that He Who is Risen and Glorified…He Who is immortal…He Whose Body is totally incorruptible should remain here below in the land of physical generation, decay, corruption, and death. This passing earth is simply not His proper place. Lastly, the theological virtues of Faith, Hope, and Charity are ever more practiced and increased as our souls are lifted up to Him even now. Let us rejoice in this great mystery of the Ascension knowing that members of the City of God will one day experience their own ascensions.
