It is interesting how the Church responded officially to the end of 2020 AD. It’s the same way she has responded for two millennia, namely, Mother Church asks her spiritual children to give thanks for the past year…to thank the good Lord for the gift of 2020. In fact, there is a full indulgence…a plenary indulgence for those individuals and families who chant or recite the solemn song of Thanksgiving or the Te Deum on New Year’s Eve. Te Deum Laudamus…O God, we praise Thee: we acknowledge Thee to be the Lord. Everlasting Father, all the earth doth worship Thee. Holy Mother Church sings a song of thanksgiving for the gift of 2020… for all that has happened…for the birth of babies…for the death of loved ones…for health and sickness…for good times and bad times…for storms and inclement weather and for sunny days ….for earthquakes and for stillness and tranquillity…for pandemics and lockdowns, as well as for therapeutics and the church being open for Holy Mass and the Sacraments…for as patient and holy Job tells us: the Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away…Blessed be the Name of the Lord. We passed through yet another year in which Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, reigns as King. It is 2020 AD…Anno Domini Nostri Jesu Christi…In the Year of Our Lord Jesus Christ…not 2020 CE. We mark the year according the Most Holy Birth of Our Savior…the Birth of the Conqueror Who defeats sin, Satan, and the spirit of the world.
