The World Health Organization has approved China's COVID-19 vaccine Sinopharm for emergency use, the first vaccine made by a non-western country to get approval.

The organization cited a group of experts on immunization having recommended two doses of the vaccine for adults over 18 years-old... with a spacing of three to four weeks.

It added vaccine efficacy was estimated to be 79 percent, but efficacy could not be estimated for people aged 60 or older... due to fewer clinical trials for that age group.

The WHO listing for emergency use is a prerequisite for the COVAX Facility vaccine supply.

Others listed are... Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Serum Institute of India, Janssen and Moderna vaccines.
