John Edmund ~ Zimbabwe Ruins (Better Times in Rhodesia)

A great, thoughtful song about how Rhodesia was desroyed by Marxists, and the Communist Dictatorship of Zimbabwe was put in it's place.

First, a bit of history. Anciently, thousands of years ago, there was a sucessful civilization that built buildings located in what would later become Rhodesia. These are known as the "Zimbabwe Ruins." However, when Euorpoean pioneers came to the area, it was only sparsely populated with almost no permanent structures, paved roads, or significant and prosperous agriculture.

When the Commies took over (supported by China and North Korea) they renamed the country after these ruins. However, the people doing this were invading tribes from West Africa, and not the native East Africans who were descended from the Zimbabwe culture.

Thus, this song is a lament from John Edmunds, comparing the current ruined nation of Zimbabwe to the ancient dilabilated buildings. Meanwhile, the alternative was Rhodesia, which was the "breadbasket of Africa" feeding a continent with it's successful, effective farms. It had advanced hospitals, schools, universities, and beautiful cities. It was "Wakanda" - only it was built by European Africans.

This is a pertinent lesson for today. We are all Rhodesia now.
