Is America's Patriot air defense system really any good?

On Wednesday, President Biden announced that America will be sending Ukraine its Patriot air defense system to help bolster the nation's resistance against the ongoing Russian invasion. The MIM-104 Patriot system is comprised of multiple assets but serves a singular purpose: identifying and intercepting inbound threats ranging from aircraft to both cruise and ballistic missiles.

The performance of the Patriot air defense system has been in question for decades... But just how capable is this system really?
