The child will learn to solder and fix basic electronics. Cheap electronic have solder that fails to hold... they learn to fix-it.
The child will likely jimmy-rig a cw-key and an di-pole antenna for a few dollars or from junk.
The child will learn to send and receive the Morse Code. https://www.bitchute.com/video/89OJ3xMfbiHh/

This graph shows you that the low wattage of about 200mW ... the longest wavelangths do best 7 and 14MHz is minimal at that signal power 21 and 18MHz did best...

No sense trying before 3 PM or after midnight within North-Central North America.

With a 7 MHz band crystal provided, your signal is not as satisfying as the 14 MHz cyrstal that you can also find on ebay for a dollar more.: https://www.bitchute.com/video/89OJ3xMfbiHh/

Study the band hits and distances and you will find 14 MHz is almost best everywhere, but here: http://lu7aa.org/dx.asp?por=H&tz=0&be=&multiplecalls=Select&scale=Lin&bs=A&call=KH6EJ&band=All&timelimit=1209600&sel=0&t=m&vl= in Hawaii Best is 14, then 21, then 28 then 7 . So try to find a cyrstal on ebay. 7 is supplied with pixie, you can get ten 14.318 for less than 5 bucks and share them with other kit builders... you can solder more crystals together for a stronger signal, so the extras can be used up.
