How to reload .223 E1 - Collecting Brass, Universal Decapping

This is the first episode of a new series I am starting. I'm going to go through the different steps that I take to reload .223 ammo cartridges. Obviously everyone has their own way of doing it with variously different tools and setups, but this is how I reload 223.

The first thing I do is COLLECT ALL THE BRASS. When you go shooting, pick up your brass, pick up other people's brass (if they aren't collecting it) and just save it. Even if it's for a cartridge you don't even have a gun for. You can always trade it for brass you use or sell it.

When tumbling be sure to sort your brass. Don't put .223 in with 9mm or .40 caliber cases. They just stuck in each other and don't get cleaned and it's just annoying. So separate your brass with like-cases.

I use a Lee universal decapper die. This doesn't resize anything and purely just removes the spent primer. I like this because I can do it while the brass is dirty and not worry about damaging or gunking up my dies. It also allows the primer pockets to get cleaned when tumbling, which is a nice bonus even if you don't believe that clean primer pockets matter all that much.

Once they're all decapped, it's time to clean them up!

Take this information for what you will, and please exercise caution. I'm not responsible if you damage property or yourself. Always double check your loads if you feel something is off, and don't take someone else's load data and assume it's good. ALWAYS WEAR EYE PROTECTION WHEN DEALING WITH LIVE PRIMERS AND CHEMICALS
