First US reinforcements including Army, Armored Division, and Apache Helicopters arrived in Latvia
Less than two days after U.S. President Joe Biden announced he would be sending more troops to the Baltic states, the first hundreds of soldiers of the 173rd Airborne Brigade of the US Army arrived in Latvia at end of February.
In total, more than hundreds of additional US soldiers are planned to be transferred to Latvia.
"We thank the United States for its ability to respond promptly to the changing security situation by sending additional US troops to Latvia in less than two days, thus strengthening the region's defense," said Minister of Defense Artis Pabriks.
However, About 20 U.S. Apache military attack helicopters landed at Lielvarde military airfield in Latvia on Thursday, hours after Russian forces invaded Ukraine.
Meanwhile, A U.S. Army tank brigadeβs nine-month rotation to central and Eastern Europe that was slated to end within weeks has been extended, Army officials said Friday, in a decision that comes in the wake of Russiaβs invasion of Ukraine.
