The explosions in this area took place around 4am yesterday, when people around here panicked with many consecutive explosions. residents of an entire neighborhood of Shanghai had to flee and evacuate overnight when the Giant and extremely noxious explosion struck.

After dramatic explosions, fires broke out in dozens of large buildings here.

Videos on social media showed large columns of fire and ashes swirling as the flames engulf parts of the vast complex. Tens of thousands of people had to hurry to evacuate when it was not yet bright, because of the toxicity of this chemical plant.

Stephen McDonnell, a BBC correspondent in China, tweeted the footage of the dark sky.

He added: This is the doomsday footage of China, the large number of casualties, temporarily unable to update accurately.

Many readers responded to mixed opinions after the video of Mr. McDonnell was published.

Second, China consistently exhibits a shabby construction and manufacturing quality, all made from tofu.

One witness, Byron Wan, tweeted: The entire city of Shanghai froze due to traffic congestion, due to a large number of people rushing to evacuate.

The causes of the explosions and subsequent fires are still unclear.

This plant is one of the largest refineries and petrochemicals in the country.

The state news agency Xinhua stated: 500 firefighters were still grappling with the fire one morning but had not finished extinguishing it.

While under control, the fire in this area is expected to continue burning for a while. Because too much oil and chemicals can not be controlled.
