a feature that requires you to enter a unique security code in addition to your password on computers and devices that aren't trusted should be optional & if not , explicitly clear in the log in as it should have said "Verification needed We will email you a code to verify your identity. This is required when something about your sign-in activity changes, like signing in from a new device or location."
