A wind energy company has pleaded guilty after killing at least 150 eagles

A wind energy company was sentenced to probation and ordered to pay more than $8 million in fines and restitution after at least 150 eagles were killed over the past decade at its wind farms in eight states, federal prosecutors said Wednesday.

NextEra Energy subsidiary ESI Energy pleaded guilty to three counts of violating the Migratory Bird Treaty Act during a Tuesday court appearance in Cheyenne, Wyoming. It was charged in the deaths of eagles at three of its wind farms in Wyoming and New Mexico.

Wind Turbine Blades Can’t Be Recycled, So They’re Piling Up in Landfills

A wind turbine’s blades can be longer than a Boeing 747 wing, so at the end of their lifespan they can’t just be hauled away. First, you need to saw through the lissome fiberglass using a diamond-encrusted industrial saw to create three pieces small enough to be strapped to a tractor-trailer.

The municipal landfill in Casper, Wyoming, is the final resting place of 870 blades whose days making renewable energy have come to end. The severed fragments look like bleached whale bones nestled against one another.

“That’s the end of it for this winter,” said waste technician Michael Bratvold, watching a bulldozer bury them forever in sand. “We’ll get the rest when the weather breaks this spring.”

Miss Netherlands contestant makes history as first trans woman to win the pageant

Rikkie Kollé became the first openly trans pageant contestant to win the title of Miss Netherlands on Saturday, and she will go on to represent her country in Miss Universe later this year.

“I did it!” Kollé wrote in a joyous Instagram post after her win at the AFAS Theater in Leusden. “I made my community proud and showed it can be done,” she added in Dutch with an emoji of the light blue, light pink and white-striped trans flag.

Justin Trudeau Finally Makes Public Reference To White Canadians: “Stop Being Racists”

Justin Trudeau has made a move unprecedented within his reign as prime minister: he actually made public reference to white Canadians. It took just under six-years for any form of recognition of Old Stock Canadians to take place.

Not once since Trudeau was elected in October, 2015 has he made an explicit reference to Anglophone Canada, or any iteration thereof. This, as opposed to tacit references toward Canadian-born citizens. Here we speak of our PM’s implied branding of white Canadians as racists, bigots, xenophobes, homophobes and purveyors of genocide.

Suddenly, on the turn of dime, Mr. Trudeau is asking our communities for a favour. He wants us to stop being racist. Never mind that it is this individual who is responsible for a rise in racism to levels unheard of in modern times.
