Severe forest fires have started in five provinces of Turkey due to the ongoing heat wave. For more than 38 hours, the fire has been extinguished in the province of Canakkale in the north-west of the country. In the province of Tekirdag in the European part of Turkey, 300 hectares of forests burned out in the Malkara county. A major fire broke out in the southeastern provinces of Diyarbakir and Hatay. In addition, a forest fire broke out in the province of Mersin in the south of the country. In all regions where the fire is raging, aviation takes part in extinguishing fires.
In Japan, heavy rains continue in the southwest of the country. The downpours led to devastating floods and landslides. Over the past day, in some areas of Fukuoka, more than 600 mm of rain fell - and this is more than usual falls here for the whole of July. All this led to the fact that many dams were overflowing. Here is a comparison of the intensity of the dam's spillway under normal conditions and during a flood.
After a long drought, several large forest and bush fires broke out in the vicinity of the Greek capital of Athens. In the eastern regions of Greece, including Athens and the islands in the Aegean Sea, the fourth - the highest level - of fire danger has been declared. One of the fires that broke out in the city of Loutraki on the coast of the Gulf of Corinth was brought under control. Strong winds make it difficult to extinguish a fire in the Boeotia region, also located near the capital. Residents of four communities were evacuated after the fire began to approach residential buildings. Four fire planes from Italy and France were sent to the Attica metropolitan area.
A powerful downpour, accompanied by thunderstorms, hail and strong winds hit the capital of Russia, Moscow. The storm brought down the temperature in Moscow by almost 10 degrees in a few minutes. Traffic on many streets stopped, cars went under water. Underpasses were flooded, water entered the subway lobbies. In social networks, people share footage from Moscow streets, which - mostly in the center - were flooded. According to the meteorological office, a half-monthly rainfall fell in the Russian capital in just 2 hours. Dozens of emergency teams worked on the streets, where storm drains struggled to cope with so much rainfall. The emergency services reported that as a result of heavy rains and gusts of hurricane wind in Moscow, cars were damaged and dozens of trees were knocked down.
