TODAY’S PROTESTING VS. THE ORIGINAL CIVIL RIGHTS PROTEST Part-3
TODAY’S PROTESTING VS. THE ORIGINAL CIVIL RIGHTS PROTEST Part-3
Persuasive Speech Outline
Introduction
1. Specific Purpose/Topic: is today’s protesting a civil rights protest?
2. Opening with Impact
I realize this is a hard thing to want to think or talk about. I think this is important and beneficial for all of us because THIS AFFECTS ALL OF US. This affects the way you see your fellow man or woman, as well as your economy. What happened to George Floyd was evil, I can’t find anybody who would disagree, and we know there are bad police nobody would disagree, that’s not what I’m focusing on.
As we look at today’s protesting some think of it as civil rights protest and think of it as a more modern extension of the original civil rights protest of the 60s, It’s just gotten out of hand a little bit.
(Chap-5 As a speaker, give the audience good reasons to care about your message. Demonstrate the topic’s relevance to them, and anticipate and address audience attitudes and beliefs.)
3. Thesis: Today, we will asking the question, is today’s protesting a civil rights protest?
Transition to body-3: One commonality you’ll find in the history of uprising and protest is that the act or the character of the person that sets the spark sets the tone for the protest and will inspire others to repeat similar actions.
Fredrick Douglass 1869 said “I Know of No Rights of Race Superior to the Rights of Humanity” Now that we’ve talked about both the old and the new let’s compare the two. There are many similarities and with slight differences.
Let’s compare? (Third Main Point)
Similarities
a. Both were diverse;
b. Both had violence
c. Both were thought trough
d. Both had previous generations to look back on.
Differences
1. One protest revolved around the law the other revolves around lawlessness (Black or White. (Car Vid)
2. Media didn’t take sides, they reported things of significance. Car vid explanation.
3. One wanted to left alone work and love in peace one wants a new gov defunded police.
4. One targeted the only the bus industry the other wants economic collapse and a new government.
5. One looked back on their previous generation with adoration the other looks down its previous generation. Blacks of the 50s and 60s would have loved to have seen a Black police chief or Black instructor, or Judge. (look at David Dorn)
6. One had a vide range adults brought who brought their kids Today the protesters are younger collage age tend to not have kids or anyone to be responsible for.
7. In the 60s protesters didn’t get paid, they had to truly sacrifice for it. Now they are paid protesters with much more time to protest.(Ferguson cut the check)
8. Both had violence but one had all the violence aimed at the MLK the other has violence against anyone not in the movement Black or White.
9. Churches burned, Black business burned by KKK the other has same thing but done by the people demanding justice.
10. Black Lives Matter is not a Black owned business.
Counter argument: Your just focused on the bad only a small amount of protestor are thugs the majority are good. Also we are more likely to have trouble with police, and struggle with crime.
Counter response: If the vast majority of protesting was peaceful they would sound like me! They go out of their way to distance themselves.
Summery Question: Again nobody is saying what happened to George Floyd was NOT acceptable BUT when I said earlier, the character of the person that sets the spark sets the tone for the protest and will inspire others to repeat similar actions, are we really going to say George Floyd, Rayquan Brooks, Hakim Littleton are the same as George Watson, Charles McGee, Rosa Parks, or Muhammad Ali. Blacks would NEVER stepped into the first fighter planes if they blamed everything on systemic racism.
6. Transition to Call to Action: “March with me in solidarity against violence and lawlessness.
7. Or random acts of kindness. (Black Police Officer vid) and when you hear something pause and wait for both sides of the story.
8. (MLK ending clip)
