This Costco Light Totally Sucks
In field reviewing the $30 "FEIT Electric" flashlight from Costco. Like many other "military spec special operations" lights "now available to civilians," the FEIT promises impressive throw. It makes one think "Why do I need to spend $190 on a high power light when this one will do for $30?" Uh huh, we'll see about that.
But there are seemingly a plethora of "spec ops" lights now that show laser beam performance to silly distances. Uh huh. I choose this Costco-marketed FEIT, representative of such, to make my points. Strap in.
I sneak up on a doe deer pretty close to where we are; she's my gentle assistant in many NV testing scenarios. Speaking of which: I found her with the AGM Sidewinder 640 thermal monocular reviewed here & still highly rec'd: https://youtu.be/V6jAxJxHi_Q
This FEIT light is big and cumbersome and features regrettable materials and performance beyond 25 ft. Also in attendance to prove this point in this stealthy review is an Olight Javelot, the incredible proven throw light in TNP. Subsequent versions are even better than the one shown.
Philosophy and rants keep the review going and you should like the inserted thermal video of our deer just a chillin' 75 yds away.

I agree with you that the false advertising can get out of hand on the cheap stuff.. But also, you have to understand that they "throw" is measure in "candela". Lumens only measures the brightness. The candela for this light is probably only 3k or 4k.. Where as the candela on your other light is probably 25k or more. My streamlight hlx pro rifle light is 50k candela and rated for 450 meters. The light you are reviewing is more of a flood light and not something that throws well at all. Anything a 1k lumens or more is plenty bright enough--- after that, make sure it has high candela ratings for the throw.
The lighting indicator looks pretty sick though!
My expensive lights don’t have that. They’re just rugged, reliable and throw good light.
