But there are a lot more questions than answers right now about how so-called carbon farming would work, or how hemp operators specifically could benefit.

The backstory is this: Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack has talked about using [$30 billion](https://www.usda.gov/media/rad....io/daily-newsline/20 his agency’s Commodity Credit Corp. to pay farmers to adopt practices that could remove carbon from the atmosphere and fight global warming.

The money was used by the former administration for COVID-19 pandemic relief and to pay farmers hurt by a trade war with China.

The Biden administration might be able to redirect that money to create a ”carbon market” that would directly pay farmers, part of the administration’s larger Climate 21 Project.

New House Bills Would Make Cannabis Businesses Eligible For Federal Small-Business Aid

Lawmakers in the U.S. House of Representatives have introduced three new bills to make state-legal marijuana businesses eligible for federal small business services, including loans, disaster relief and grant programs.

The package of legislation is aimed at establishing parity for cannabis businesses, which are currently prohibited from receiving federal aid due to marijuana still being classified as a Schedule I controlled substance. The country’s legal cannabis industry nevertheless now supports nearly 320,000 full-time jobs in the U.S., according to industry estimates.

Schumer Celebrates 4/20 Marijuana Holiday On Senate Floor

Schumer told Marijuana Moment in an interview on Monday [that the legislation will be comprehensive](https://www.marijuanamoment.ne....t/schumer-worries-se and that lawmakers are working to incorporate other reform components such as providing explicit protections for banks that works with state-legal marijuana businesses.

“It’s time for change. I believe the time has come to end the federal prohibition on marijuana in this country,” he said in the new remarks from the floor. “In state after state through ballot initiatives and constitutional amendments, the American people are sending a clear message that they want this policy changed.”
