French Lawmaker Displays Marijuana Joint In Parliament As New Report Calls For Legalization

The stunt came one day before a multi-party parliamentary report was released advocating for #marijuana legalization.

Richard Ferrand, president of the National Assembly, immediately censured Lambert for displaying the #joint and raised a point of order that means the lawmaker could face a financial penalty.

Things went over differently in Mexico when a lawmaker gifted a joint to Interior Ministry Secretary Olga SĂĄnchez Cordero on the floor of the Chamber of Deputies in 2019.

A top administration official was gifted a #cannabis plant by senator on the Senate floor, and she said she’d be making it a part of her personal garden.

Cannabis made another appearance in the Mexican legislature in August, when Sen. Jesusa RodrĂguez of the MORENA party decorated her desk with a marijuana plant.

Idaho Senate Passes Bill (SB 1218) To Ban Marijuana Advertising

Earlier on Wednesday, the bill had been placed on a fast track for approval, receiving a committee hearing with little notice for the public to participate. Nonetheless, four citizens appeared at the meeting to oppose the measure, while no one showed up to speak in favor of the bill. Their efforts were in vain, however, with the panel’s Republican majority approving the bill with a vote of 7 to 2 along party lines.

Serra Frank, a cannabis activist and the organizer of Boise Hempfest, told High Times that anti-cannabis lawmakers are going to extreme measures to thwart reform.

“They introduced this bill late in the evening, without even posting it online for the citizens of Idaho to have a chance to read and respond. Then passed it the next morning, despite unanimous opposition in the audience,” Frank wrote in an email. “Their shady tactics and immoral attacks on the rights of Idaho citizens simply continues to expose them for what they really are– terrified of the inevitability of the legalization of marijuana in Idaho.”

“The Idaho prohibitionists are fighting tooth and nail this session to pass anything they can that will make it almost impossible to reform Idaho’s harmful marijuana laws; from choking the life out of our initiative process to a proposed amendment to the constitution that would have forever banned the legalization of any drug that is currently illegal in Idaho,” she added.

THC rules loosened in Wisconsin, but it won’t help CBD growers

While the change may help grain and fiber producers, it would do little to support CBD producers, who live off the hemp flowers, and who have dominated Wisconsin hemp since growing started in the state three years ago.

The state also adopted a federal guideline that lets growers receive one violation per year with no consequences if THC levels in their crops go beyond the legal limit.

Wisconsin still operates under the 2014 U.S. Farm Bill as a hemp pilot program, but must adopt the federal hemp rule, published in this past March, for the 2022 growing season.

The state is among the top 10 hemp producers in the United States, with nearly 1,200 licenses granted in both 2019 and 2020. Experts have said fiber will likely be Wisconsin’s main hemp output long term due to the state’s growing conditions.
