Biden AG Stresses That Marijuana Use In Legal States Is Not A Justice Department Priority

During a House Appropriations subcommittee meeting, Rep. Mike Garcia (R-CA) asked the official about what steps his agency could take to stop transnational organizations from illicitly cultivating cannabis and stealing natural resources for their grow operations.

Garland said that he’s “not precisely familiar with the specifics” of that issue, but it is “certainly within our jurisdiction and within our scope of concern” to go after marijuana growing operations that violate state law. But while curtailing large-scale illicit traffickers is something the department will pursue, the attorney general said people using cannabis in legal states is not a worthwhile endeavor.

“The department’s view on marijuana use is that enforcement against use is not a good use of our resources,” Garland said. “And I understand that’s not what you’re talking about. You’re talking about growing and manufacturing at a large scale.”

Candy Giant Mars Wrigley Sues Cannabis Brands For Copyright Infringement

Mars Wrigley said that the infused products sold by the defendants in the case have a nearly identical resemblance to its trademarked products. Defendants include the California-based owners of the websites 2020ediblez.com, ie420supply.com, and oc420collection.com, reported Bloomberg, noting that emails and phone calls requesting comment from the defendants went unanswered.

In a complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, Mars Wrigley named Terphogz and five Illinois-based companies that purchase, market, and sell cannabis-infused Zkittlez in the state.

“Mars Wrigley filed an additional lawsuit in the U.S. against a company selling a marijuana strain and related products under the name Zkittlez, bearing an extreme likeness to a Mars Wrigley brand,” the company said. “Mars Wrigley’s legal actions in the U.S. and Canada are a testament to its commitment to stop the distribution of these harmful THC products.”

Cops’ clueless policy on CBD draws rebuke from German association

“Such messages stir up unnecessary uncertainty,” said Jürgen Neumeyer, BvCW managing director. “It is obvious that we finally need a decent legal regulation.”

BvCW said the police statement ignores a ruling in March by Germany’s Federal Court of Justice (BGH) which found the sale of hemp flowers and leaves to end customers is not prohibited in principle. That ruling came as the court annulled charges against a group of Braunschweig hemp tea sellers. Stakeholders saw the decision as paving the way for the sale of food products based on hemp flowers and leaves on the German market.

The police are also apparently unaware of the fact that the European Commission cleared CBD from drug status, designated it as a food, and re-asserted EU free-trade guarantees late last year. Finally, the European Court of Justice ruled last December that CBD should not be considered a narcotic under the meaning of the 1961 UN Single Convention on narcotics.

“The THC levels in CBD hemp flowers are usually so low that intoxication is impossible even when consuming an entire sales unit,” said Stefan Meyer, BvCW President and coordinator of the Association’s CBD department.
