The Demands of Discipleship – Dr. Charles Stanley – Called to be a Disciple – Part 1
What does it mean to be a disciple? A disciple is one who learns the doctrine of their teacher, then applies it to their own life. There are all kinds of teachers and doctrines to follow. But Christians are called to be different, to stand apart.
What does it mean to be a New Testament disciple? A New Testament disciple has a threefold definition:
- They received Jesus Christ as Savior.
- They yield their lives to Jesus Christ as Lord.
- They are available for the Holy Spirit to reproduce the life of Christ through them into the life of someone else.
Dr. Stanley states that, for the most part, the church has lost a true understanding of discipleship. This has led to a world full of people who may believe in Jesus but do not sincerely follow Him, or understand how to walk with Him daily.
A disciple is one who is devoted to Jesus, detached from the world, disciplined, and dedicated to discipling others. If this type of discipleship is something that you desire in your own life, this message will lead you to a more vibrant and effective walk with the Lord.
