Some scientists predict that, thanks to our ongoing dependency on fossil fuels, our climate might be an average of 4 °F hotter than it is today by the time we reach the year 2100. And while that may not sound like much, a temperature rise like this would have profound consequences.

In this scenario, temperatures across swathes of South America, Africa and the Indian sub-continent would regularly hit 110 °F – and consequently, people will suffer. Indeed, every summer, thousands would die from conditions associated with extreme temperatures, predict scientists.
