Manchuria in China was where Japan got most of their oil and iron ore. Capture it and you stop Japan's war machine. The Red Army's last campaign of WWII and the last battle of the war was with Japan. The Japanese were still fighting almost a week after Japan's surrender on the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay with General MacArthur and General Derevyanko .
