Ruger GP100 Combat Shooting (Trench Warfare Drill) by Nutnfancy
Time to Rock the Trench with the Ruger GP100 full size .357 revolver. The Trench Warfare Drill is of course the Nutnfancy handgun course where multiple steel targets from www.shopactiontarget.com are engaged in rapid, fast-paced succession with ranges going out to 27 yards. The GP100 is apparently up to the challenge and provides great fun in these runs. But it's still tough to get excellent accuracy and speed in the Trench, especially with a revolver. I give it a few of my best efforts here and bring you along for the adventure (many guns ran that day, this was just one of them, 12 runs in total!). In this shooting, I find the Ruger to be a rugged, easy to shoot full size contender in pressured shooting, stacking up nicely against the highly recommended and previously reviewed Smith and Wesson 686/686P .357. Fit and finish is a little more crude than the Smith but you won't notice it in shooting like this. With trigger job complete by Impactguns.com guru Terry G, the double-action engagements come more rapidly. The GP100 seems to be very accurate and the stock grips need no improvement. I show a couple of lockwork bobbles where it is possible I did not seat the cylinder all the way (could be the gun, not sure). My friend and cameraman out with me this day gives good advice on revolver immediate action drills in those situations. Time was 170 Seconds and 3 misses (5 actual minus 2 for speed bonus) for Run 1, 178 Seconds and only two misses on the Run 2. As promised the reloads are coming along and speed is improved as the Ruger GP100 owns the steel. //////////// Nutnfancy Likability Scale: 9 out of 10 (price considered)/////////////// Music: www.torley.com
