In the late afternoon of Tuesday, October 4, an intense storm with hail hit several locations in the mountainous region of Rio, Brazil. Images and videos shared on social media show the damage caused by the storm and the accumulation of ice on city streets. Some hail is about the size of a golf ball.

The district of Pedro do Rio, in Petrópolis, was one of the most affected by the hailstorm. The roofs of some houses were damaged by hail. Due to the ice stones and the accumulation of water, drivers traveling on road had to circulate at reduced speed and with the alert on.

The hailstorm was also recorded in Teresópolis. The resident of a condominium in the Albuquerque neighborhood registered the hail on the spot. The hailstorm lasted about 30 minutes and started around 3:40 pm. Some roads in the region were covered by the ice layer, as well as the local vegetation.

The highest rainfall recorded in the city was 14.5 millimeters, in the neighborhood of Três Córrregos. Despite the natural event hampering vehicle traffic on the highway, there has been no recorded of major damage due to hail in these areas.

The channel lists such natural disasters as:
1) Geological emergencies: Earthquake, Volcanic eruption, Mud, Landslide, Avalanche;
