The Washington, D.C.-based organization will hold a rally 6 p.m. at the Hodge Park Amphitheater to show their support for KCPD and to push for a recall of Lucas. The group’s push comes from what the organization called recent "defunding efforts made by the city council."

Lucas has been quick to punch back at those defunding remarks — pointing to the fact that the money hasn't been taken from the department but instead it would go into a separate fund controlled by both the board of police commissioners and the city manager that the police would still ultimately spend.
Lucas also accuses people who say this is defunding the police of stoking the flames of division.
The police board maintains that state law gives it exclusive control over the department, not the city.
