Hundreds of dead fish were dumped on Palmares Beach in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Fishermen noted that it is not common to see these species near the beach, as these fish usually live in the ocean at depths of up to 600 meters.

About 200 bighead hairtail (Trichiurus lepturus) were counted. Authorities are now analyzing the cause of their mysterious deaths.

The reasons for such a mass release of deep-sea fish are not known, but perhaps the cause was the eruption of an underwater volcano in Tonga.

It is worth noting that the explosion of the volcano off the kingdom of Tonga was the most powerful in the last 40 years, caused a tsunami and led to fluctuations in tidal levels on the coasts of various countries, including Mexico.

Or were these deep-sea fish just another sign of the ongoing geological turmoil we are now going through?
