Apologist Justin Derby responds to Wolfballs head admin Masterofballs' recent post where he falsely claimed that it's expensive to start and host a fully developed video site, and his false claim that Rumble, Odysee, and Gab TV are free speech sites.

19:09 People seem to have forgotten that for renting some Web-hosting or running a server in their basement, they can self-host their own videos with little risk of "censorship" (apart from what's illegal in the many jurisdictions, and domain-blocking, if not for domain-block circumvention schemes), but very often, if not illegal, freedom of speech, voicing one's opinion, will hardly be taken down by anyone, that way. Of course, people don't want to pay themselves, rather go to some user-generated content site instead, and it's also better for engagement and discoverability to use centralized services.

9:04 There's a thing with this: people think the WWW or Internet started when they first saw it, when they first encounter it. But often, these things exist for a longer time, and are around, just with a much smaller group of users, so people tend to not be "aware" of these being around, or being really "big"/ubiquitous.

For some of the video sites I'm on, it is pretty expensive, for memory storage and bandwidth, for reason of those who run it are quite young, still in school, and don't have much of an income, especially to spend it on offering free/gratis video hosting for other people. Often, they don't have a "business model" or other income figured out, or can't or don't want to run ads (if a small site, who's advertising, apart from questionable advertising). So for them, $100 is sort of an expense.
