Leatherman Charge: Awl Mod by Nutnfancy
The Leatherman Charge Ti and TTi are my reference multi-tools for lots of good reasons: quality of build, compactness, weight, variety of tools, great blade steel and blades, great pliers, tool bits, a great sheath, and more. However as of Oct 2008 it does lack a most important tool: an awl. This video shows my modification to cure that omission: a standard phillips driver bit ground on a wheel grinder and filed into a functional awl/punch. It's not perfect but I suspect it will work well enough for my wilderness purposes. I think at some point Leatherman will make and offer a similar awl for its users...it should be doing so right now. Hopefully they make it adequately long for more utility, just as my version attempts to be. Also in the vid I include a few more important criticisms of the SOG Powerlock EOD multi-tool that I didn't include in the original video.
