“Lay down and scream” the pain only lasts 3 minutes, Fact Animal’s advice if you get stung”*.
You're OK though they almost never sting people.
They eat nectar and such but the female hunts for tarantulas or large spiders to host her offspring.
*Exceeded only by the sting of the South American Bullet Ant (Xpepper)
Found this when we had a few nights near freezing.

The Tarantula Hunter
Pepsis albocincta in the latin.
This appears to be a female, identified by the curly antenna.
Males have straight antenna.
