KX500AF Kick Starter Corrected Assembly! (North Las Vegas) 11-30-2020
When temps would fall below about 50 degrees I would begin having kick starter issues because the the oil would thicken. This started happening after I had a local "professional" replace the crankshaft. I have been living with the issue for years! Once the bike was warmed up the kick starter would work fine. I finally got motivated to pull the side cover and take a look. The kick starter was not assembled correctly by the local "professional". He has since retired a few years ago and closed his shop so it serves no purpose to mention who he was and anyone can make a mistake. The spring that holds tension against the ratcheting pawl and the nylon spring bushing were incorrectly installed. Another case of ... "if you want it done right, do it yourself"!
