Jakima Cop Kidnaps His Son Oregon State Police Try To Kill Baby To Save It
Eugene, Oregon — On the night of April 22, 2024, Washington State law enforcement issued an Amber Alert for a young child kidnapped by his father, 39-year-old Elias Huizar, who was wanted in connection with two murders. On April 23, 2024, Oregon State Troopers, Sgt. OJ Johnson and Sr. Trooper Scott Show located the suspect vehicle heading southbound on I-5 near Eugene. Troopers attempted to stop the vehicle; Huizar didn't comply and a pursuit was initiated. Supt. Casey Codding joined the pursuit. Sr. Trooper Show attempts to stop the vehicle with a redirect. As Huizar vehicle continues to elude, a second redirect is attempted. Huizar stops and fires at responding troopers.
Sgt. Johnson and Supt. Codding return fire. 30 sec. later the pursuit resumes southbound on I-5. Near milepost 197, Huizar moves to the highway shoulder, crashes into a CMV, and comes to a stop. Pursuing troopers arrived at the crash scene and a team of officers assembled and advanced on the vehicle to attempt contact with Huizar. Huizar was confirmed deceased by a self- inflicted gunshot wound and the 1-year-old child was safely rescued. Elias Huizar, was a former Yakima Police officer and a school resource officer (SRO) at Washington Middle School in Yakima, who in April killed his girlfriend and ex-wife, then kidnapped his own son. In early February, Huizar was arrested for the rape of a 16-year-old.
