In Silver Mist by Michael Robson

Hugh Dargan. a talented but struggling young composer, is newly and happily married to Anna. They have settled in Cricket Magna. an idyllic Edwardian seaside village. Hugh by nature is neither a vindictive nor a jealous man; so when Edmund Poel, an old Oxford friend and a rival composer, also comes to live at Cricket Magna, Anna finds it difficult to understand Hugh's distress and fury.
