How to Replace a Savage Ejector Spring - Stevens 200 in .308 Winchester
In the recent "Moving Target" video you saw how weak the ejection was from my Stevens 200 in .308 Winchester. Let's swap the ejector spring and get the rifle back to full performance.
Before we begin, I have to mention that the rifle is not at fault. I ruined the ejector spring when I fired an over-pressure round of 7mm-08 a few years ago. Hot gasses shot past the primer, etched the bolt face, and tried to find a way out. One of those avenues was through the ejector. The gasses instantly annealed the ejector spring, rendering it nearly useless.
Fortunately it's an easy fix. Use a pin punch to drive out the retaining pin, remove the ejector and spring, then replace the spring with a new one from Brownells or Numrich. Aligning the cutout in the ejector, push it in and drive the retaining pin back in place. That's the theory, anyway. In this video I'll show you one little trick to keep your ejector from sailing across the workshop.
