commentary: hubert meyer, who once served in hitler's leibstrandarte bodyguard, was arrested at the skyline hotel near the airport and was spending the night in the cells of the airport police station before being put on a flight back to germany. meyer's planned book about the ss which provoked violent protests from war historians, ex-servicemen, the jewish people and some ministers who are angered and shocked over the visit.
yet because of a mix-up in the official papers, meyer was able to hold the press conference which the ban was intended to prevent. at the conference, meyer defended the ss, but admitted that it had had its faults.

"i have had no problems with the police." question: how do you react to all the fuss that has been going on here. we've just had someone demonstrate behind you?" meyer: "i think that shows that it is necessary to tell the truth very openly and very objec ively."
