In the cloistered silence of the Abbey, while a gale rages outside. Chief Inspector Lynch examines the body of the saintly Brother Placid. Certain curious features—plaster on his chin. blisters on his toes, and, lying in a work-shed, an unfinished wood carving of a Madonna-lead the Inspector into a case of murder
