The atmosphere is moving at 1,000 MPH along with us.
Since space is empty, there is nothing to rub against.
Think of being on a plane that's moving at 1,000 MPH.
It seems to you like it's standing still.

When I flew From San Francisco, to Singapore the map on the plane showed us flying north (along the West coast) to Alaska.
Then we flew south along the coast of China.
I thought that didn't make sense.
But when I looked at a globe, it was a Straight Line.
