For several months, the new eruption of the Krysuvik volcanic system has amazed the world due to its spectacular flows of lava, lava fountains, and rate of growth. Since the entire eruption in Iceland has been live-streamed by multiple entities, it has provided a figurative goldmine for volcanologists. However, as of recent the volcano has had unusual phases of activity. On occasion, the volcano even appeared to have temporarily stopped erupting as no new fresh lava is visible for periods of 3 or more days. At other times, lava rushed out of the main vent in a spectacular flood. So, what is going on? This video will discuss the ongoing eruption, and explain what might happen next.
This video was made by a geologist who is based in Arizona.
