Our elementary schools in Ontario are now on the forefront of erasing women from our language and culture. A friend’s son, in Grade 5, was given homework this week that used terminology that five years ago would have been ridiculed widely; now it’s taught in the classroom.

The Erasure of “Women” Is Escalating

The campaign to erase references to women has reached new levels of absurdity. In just the last few weeks, it’s made forays into social media, medical journals, and even federal legislation.

For example, if you’ve spent much time on social media lately, you’ve likely seen the ACLU’s edits of a quote from Ruth Bader Ginsburg to remove offending references to “women.”

Last October, Kamala Harris had no problem quoting an uncensored Ginsburg in the Senate confirmation hearings for Amy Coney Barrett. But conventions on these delicate matters change fast. Eleven months later, the ACLU felt the need to strike the affronting words.

Sometimes, internet weirdos cut closer to the heart of matters than more obviously housetrained writers.

Gender Acceleration: A Blackpaper is an anonymous 2018 essay that celebrates an imagined escape from “the horrid curse of being human.” It describes a tech-enabled unmooring of gender from reproduction that ultimately, it hopes, will enable us to triumph over our own nature:

Deputy US marshal shot teenager trying to carjack him outside Supreme Court justice’s house

A deputy US marshal shot an 18-year-old who attempted to carjack him while he was on duty near the house of Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor in Washington, DC, according to law enforcement officials.

The attempted carjacking appears to be random, a person familiar with the investigation told CNN, and there is no indication that there was any connection between the alleged crime and Sotomayor’s residence. The deputy marshal was in an unmarked car at the time of the attempted carjacking, according to court documents.
