    England in danger! Heavy rains overwhelmed rivers and flooded roads in Cumbria

    Heavy rain has hit Cumbria with reports of flooding at a "handful" of homes and road and rail travel disrupted.
    The Met Office has issued an amber, or medium risk warning, which will be in place until 23:59 BST on Thursday.
    Honister Pass in the Lake District saw more than a foot (30cm) of rain in 24 hours.
    Some roads, including the A591 between Rydal and Grasmere, have been flooded, and Cumbria Police has advised people to only travel if necessary.
    The Met Office has two amber weather warnings out for south-west Scotland and Cumbria for heavy rain.
    This means a very real chance of flooding, damage to buildings, difficult driving conditions and also the risk of "danger to life from fast-flowing or deep floodwater"
    The River Rothay is among those that have burst their banks.
    The Environment Agency has issued 10 flood warnings, including for parts of Keswick, Grasmere, White Bridge, Stock Lane, Burneside, Steeles Row and Carling Steps, where river levels have risen.
    Environment Agency teams were monitoring the effect of the rain on rivers, focusing on western and southern parts of the county, "making sure flood defences work
    The River Cocker is running very high and Cockermouth Emergency Response Group have been on the ground there with pumps helping remove surface water at South Street.
    It is predicted that the situation may worsen throughout the day today October 28 as the Met Office has issued a amber 'danger to life' weather warning for rain.
    The warning is in place until midnight and covers Cockermouth, Ambleside, Keswick, Bowness on Windermere and Kendal.
    The rest of the county is covered by a yellow warning which is active until midnight October 28.
    Residents are being urged to be prepare for the risk of significant flooding from today and throughout this week, the Environment Agency has said.
