He received his BS in Chemistry/Physics from Franklin College in 1963; Completed a stint in the U.S. Army, and then his M.S. in Chemistry at the University of Idaho in 1966; Completed his Ph.D. in Chemistry/Biochemistry at Washington State University in 1971; Was an NIH Postdoctoral Scholar in the Department of Physiology, Yale University Medical School from 1971 to 1974; Was appointed at the University of Wyoming in 1974, and promoted to full professor in 1983; Was the first scientist hired in the Markey Cancer Center at the University of Kentucky in 1985, with academic appointments as professor in the College of Pharmacy and the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Kentucky Medical Center; Was named Professor and Chair of the Department of Chemistry in 1996, and served out this position until his retirement in 2008.
