The nation-state law passed in 2018 declared Israel as the nation-state of the Jewish people and the state of the Jewish people.
This law does not necessarily imply that the modern State of Israel is the direct heir of the biblical nation of Israel.

Theological significance: The biblical Israel was a theocratic monarchy in covenant with God, while the modern State of Israel is a secular democracy.

Citizenship: The biblical Israel was a theocratic state, where citizenship was determined by birth or conversion to Judaism. The modern State of Israel grants citizenship based on a combination of factors, including Jewish ancestry, conversion, and residency.
Government: The biblical Israel was governed by a theocratic monarchy, while the modern State of Israel is governed by a democratic system.
