The best way to ask about service on your firearm or inquire about accessories/ammo is to simply KNOW your weapon (i.e. AR15, or 1911) and KNOW what you're looking to buy for it or what service you want done on it. No need to whip it out and say "I got my AR15 here and I need one of those free float rails!" or "This here is my 1911 and I want to know if......". This could all be avoided if customers simply KNEW what they want or need. Same goes if you're trying to sell you gun to a gun store. Say "Hello, I've got a XXXXXX brand AR15 and wanted to know if you guys would be interested in buying it from me?". Then, the gun counter people will probably respond with permission for you to display the weapon.

I've NEVER just walked into a gun store with a gun I was trying to sell. I ALWAYS walk in unarmed and ASK first, explain what I've got and then WAIT for the green light. I go to my vehicle, grab the firearm, ensure multiple times that it's CLEAR then either leave the cylinder open or the bolt/slide racked open and WITHOUT the magazine. It's always aiming towards the ground with no fingers anywhere near the trigger. If possible I bring long guns inside in the same fashion but in a tactical bag if I am including it in the sale.

I set my firearm down and back away from the counter a bit to let them look it over and go from there. I've worked at the AAFES gun counter on Hill AFB.....I know how it feels when customers inadvertently flag you when you're behind the counter too. Be safe people! Learn your weapon too!
