Police used tear gas and water cannons against people protesting lockdown for the fourth night in a row.

632 people were arrested in just one night, as clashes broke out in multiple cities across Tunisia.

Protests first started when the government imposed a lockdown on January 14 in an attempt to curb a further surge in COVID infections.

Coronavirus has all but decimated the country’s tourism industry, which had already been struggling after fatal attacks in 2015.

The four-day lockdown ended on January 17 but it is unclear if other restrictions will be imposed.

Tunisia has reported 181,885 COVID cases and 5,750 related deaths.
