CHINA vs USA: Kershaw Compound VS Turbulence by Nutnfancy

Which one would YOU buy? Two very similar knives from the same company. One costs over twice as much as the other however. Here the US made Kershaw Turbulence 1790 goes up against its team mate the Chinese produced Kershaw Compound 1940. In bottom line practical cutting they will be very similar if not identical. Because of their lacking of high end traction, their POUs are decidedly EDC. At their 4.2 oz carry weight, they fail to excite me in that application; at this point we have just too many other better and LIGHTER options. But a close look at their quality levels, lockup, assisted opening feature, clip strength, ergos, and sharpness levels out of their nearly identical recurved drop points impresses. The Compound is a price point knife and takes advantage of indigenous Chinese materials like 8Cr13MOV steel and the slick lower quality G10. They both use the same clip. The 1790 Turbulence is higher end in materials: Sandvik 14C28N steel and medium traction G10 providing better grip (on the sides at least). But in function the similarities remain and you have to make a call: the $70 Turbulence or the $22 Compound. Herein then lies a fascinating case study of Made in the USA that provides direct comparabilities...at least from one knife manufacturer.
