'China's Worst Sandstorm in TEN YEARS Sends Pollution Levels Soaring'
Heavy winds from inner Mongolia have swept sand from the Gobi Desert across western China, coating Beijing in a think layer of dust and sending pollution levels rocketing.
China's Meteorological Administration announced a yellow alert on Monday morning and those with respiratory diseases were advised to stay inside as Beijing's official air quality index reached a maximum level of 500.
Beijing faces regular sandstorms in March and April as a result of its proximity to the enormous Gobi desert as well as deforestation throughout northern China.
