Chaotic scenes outside Kabul airport continue with at least 12 dead

Chaotic scenes continue outside Kabul airport as desperate Afghans and foreign nationals try to flee, and at least 12 people have died at the airport since Sunday.

Among the crowd outside the airport there are many British residents and nationals, as well as Europeans, waiting for their turn inside the gates.

It has taken days for people to get to the gates although many have the right paperwork, and they say the ordeal has been horrendous and dangerous.

While the British soldiers try to deal with large numbers of UK nationals and people clear to go to Britain, they have also taken in hundreds who should be at the American base instead.

Taking them to the right base is a logistical nightmare, as protecting them as well as the base from being overrun is difficult.

People of all ages are gathered outside the gates, and are confused, upset, tired and desperate.

In single file the evacuees heading to America are brought from one camp and directed to another, with whole families attempting to escape the Taliban.
